Thoughts on Medical College of Wisconsin for a prelim year?

Hey guys I was just wondering if any one has any thoughts or inside information about the medicine program at MCOW. I really enjoyed my interview and I am thinking about ranking them as my top choice for my prelim year. I am looking for a prelim program that will give me a strong education in medicine. I don't mind working hard but I don't want to be at a malignant program. Thanks for the input.

The PD seems very forward-thinking, and the program seems to be on the rise. My friend's sister is an intern there; she works hard, but she likes it. The call schedule is very reasonable, and people are just as friendly as anywhere in the Midwest.

Milwaukee is actually a really cool city, but odds are you won't have enough time in 12 months to discover all of its hidden beauty.

Having said all of that, I worked closely with a couple of attendings that had MCW ties. One of my attendings was a medical student there about ten years ago, and he thought that the IM residents were rather weak. My other attending did his cardiology fellowship there two or three years ago and agreed that the residents were sub-par.

Obviously, those are just two people's opinions and may not reflect the most current perspective.

the real question about pre-lim years is "why not?"

just about every pre-lim will be fairly equal - if there is not reason NOT do it at a place, just freaking do it, you have to anyway

I'm always proud of the people that don't go total douche and do everything they can to find some bull**** transitional year
