Thoughts on my list? Input would be great!

NYMC... its 30 min on the metronorth out of NYC

NYMC is not on there because they had an issue a few years back with one of their student groups that turns me off a bit. Nothing huge, but it is not on the list for a reason...... but i should prob add it anyways.

Your list seems reasonable.

I would comment that from reading your "Brief Profile" you seem light on the clinical experience that med schools expect, if volunteering at the school for autistic children is your only clinical exposure. Do either of your other health-related ECs provide you with face-to-face time with sick people? Or are you planning on additional shadowing, job, or other volunteerism to demonstrate a broader experience?

Your stats, research, and leadership all look good.

Well, I have done some shadowing in college and I will be doing allot more this year and during my year off.

During the summer before my freshman year of college, I shadowed at Yale oncology for 2.5 months which was great. I look forward to doing some more this year. It's a little difficult in the area I am in because the hospitals tend to turn down pre-meds for doing clinical volunteering because there are so many of us in this city....the only thing I could get at my local hospital would have been more janitorial in nature which is too bad.

Thanks for the advice, though! I will certainly be bulking that area up this year. How many of those schools would you reccomend applying to? All? 15ish?

You are top heavy with the reach schools. If you want to be economical, take out Northwestern and some others that are more selective. Leave Yale, since it's a dream of yours (I'll assume your research experience is of sufficient quality to appeal to them). I think Boston U and U Conn are well within your reach. Leave U Vermont, GWU, and Albany as safeties.

hey twostep...just wanted to note that we have very very similar stats esp MCAT...i'm also thinking about wut schools to add/take out... i don't have much advice to give becuse i'm actually seeking advice...but i wish you the best of luck when we apply together next yr!

I would say the list isn't too top-heavy if you get in your stuff EARLY and write an amazing app. As a matter of personal preference, I'd take Brown off the list because many of their seats are already spoken for by people who are guaranteed acceptance into the program (look at the MSAR to see what I mean). Use that money to apply somewhere else you would find appealing. What about VCU? EVMS? Robert Wood Johnson?

PS. I love your MCAT. What a perfect balance.

PPS. Rest of app looks good, but I would try to get in some shadowing experience if you can find time to do it.

Update:

Same stats as above, but I have more clinical experience now. I have been doing a min. of 2 hrs/week at a nursing home volunteering in rehab therapy and helping the nurses with dementia patients. It's been very good---I really like working with the older generations.

Anywhoo---more feedback on my list would be awesome. How many schools should I apply to?
