Is the USMLE like the MCAT in that you can choose to or not to release your scores? If so, can people think of the benefits or consequences of not releasing.

I'm a DO student taking it and while I'm shooting high and studying my *(& off, if something happens and it goes "badly"... well. Thoughts?

You are required to release your USMLE transcript on ERAS when you submit your initial residency applications (usually sept of 4th yr). Many programs will utilize step 1 scores as a screening tool for interviews. In addition, your medical school may have time requirements with regard to taking step 1 (we had to pass it prior to starting MS4).

After that, you do have the option of withholding any subsequent scores you receive (usually step 2 CK and CS) during the 4th year. I did this, largely because I wanted to see my score prior to its release to residency programs...I'm not aware of any situation in which you can withhold your USMLE initial transcript....maybe others have some better insight. Good luck on the exam!
