I just called NYU Admissions to check up on my application. I've been complete since AUGUST and haven't heard a peep since then. The woman I spoke to could not have been any ruder and it makes me want to withdraw my application right now...

I won't, of course, because I'm still clinging to that very, very slim hope my interview invite is on its way, but just had to vent.

Has anyone had a pleasant experience with this school? All my dealings with them have been rather nasty. 🙁

they've got that new york attitude for sure...

Isn't it great when someone's being a complete a-hole to you and you still have to act polite and chummy?

until you're in medical school and you have to continue to deal with times:

"when someone's being a complete a-hole to you and you still have to act polite and chummy?"

Develop a thick skin now, guys. It's gonna be a rough time otherwise.

Best of luck on the interview trails.

You guys both make good points! I guess NYU is inadvertently helping us become better doctors. I'll be thankful one day! 😉

No they're not.

NYU puts a lot of emphasis on numbers (esp GPA). Well atleast at my university, only those kids with a 3.9+/34+ MCAT have even gotten interviews. I know a lot of qualified kids who didn't even get an interview regardless of their ECs. If you don't meet those requirements, might want to start wrapping it up with them.

Thats not always true... I got an interview and my stats are no where near 3.9+/34+. I won't be surprised if i'm not accepted, but i did get an interview. Who knows how these things work. I just got a preinterview rejection from my state school (and I thought for sure they would interview me.)

The whole process is 100% random.

As far as NYU goes, I remember speaking to my premed advisor about my choices way back when. I thought I would be a shoe in at NYU (my stats are above their averages, although I now know that the averages have seemingly little to do with the actual process), but he cautioned that "NYU can be very finicky and make odd decisions about their applicants."

So congrats to all of you who have interviewed and been accepted, and as for the rest of us...good things are coming our way! 😀

Yea but you are an URM, doesn't count for you.

not true. i do not have a 3.9+ GPA and I interviewed there already (and to save the comment from above..i am not a URM)

I feel dumb for asking, but what is a URM?

FYI...Not all hispanics are URMs only those from puerto rico and mexico are considered an URM.

Either way, you still get an edge. Not that anyone should have a problem with that, but it directly impacts your comment.

Those cutoffs must be more for your school. I for one, do not have a 3.9 and a simple search on mdapplicants will reveal that many with lower numbers than what you listed have gotten interviews.

My point is that this school emphasizes numbers. even mdapplicants confirms this (3.76 avg gpa, 34.5 avg mcat for interviewees).

well that'as a bit different; at least i fit within those numbers

NYU, even on undergrad level, admits some students that doesn't make sense and regets those you'd expect to get in

Not to start a URM fight- because Im not taking sides- but AAMC has changed its policy about URM status: all Hispanics are considered URM now.

To the OP: I suggest withdrawing. It will save you much uneeded heartache come the dreaded day. God knows, NYU takes FOREVER to send out the nasty letters this late in the game. Better to reject them than to have been rejected. Besides, you're right interviews are winding down- therefore, slim to none chance.

This is definitely not necessarily true. I got an interview and I have a 3.9 and a 30, not even close to a 34. So keep on hoping all you people who haven't heard yet and if you're really set on NYU, def write letters of intent or what have you. 🙂
