Can anyone comment on the length of time between an internship site submitting their self-study and a site visit occurring? So, the length of time between a site visit and a site becoming accredited by APA?

So maybe herpes is better than an APPIC site, because you don't have to list the herp on your CV.

I dont think there is a timeline even specified for this. I think its a scheduling issue, since its by a comittee of folks who all have their own schedules and professioanl lives/comittments. Moreover, you are making the rather large assumption that the self-study leads directly to the site visit as the next step. For may sites, there are bugs that need to be worked out, changes that are requested, more data that is requested, etc.

It'll probably be pretty tough to get a good estimate on because this is something that APA is reportedly "working on", which is in response to some funding it received to provide additional internship sites. I've been through one re-acred. and it was very involved (and the site I was at had been acred. for 25+ yrs).

From experience in my previous program, I think it was about 9 months. There is a lot of variation and delays though. While my program was eventually accredited, I would not bet on it unless the school and faculty have a good reputation and understanding of what it takes.

I'd imagine this would be a huge source of variability, yep. For something like a VA site where there's a solid, established training track record and an extensive network of training directors who've directly gone through the process, it might be relatively "quick." Conversely, for a stand-alone site that's just starting up and really has no idea what to expect, their self-study may need to go through numerous revisions prior to even being granted the first site visit, which may then itself lead to a variety of areas that need to be addressed before another site visit is granted.

He was asking about internship programs not academics programs.

Unless the site visit is SCHEDULED NOW, as in the days the site visitors will come is determined and is within the year you'd be there, don't assume it will happen within the year, or at all.

Again, I've just seen sooooo many people screwed by sites that "say" they "plan" (as if they have much control over it) to be accredited by xyz date, and then it doesn't happen.

Okay, so in regards to academic clinical psychology programs, say that it is a reputable state school that has applied for accreditation (turned in the self-study) and has been granted a site visit for this semester. Any timeline estimate for a scenario like that?

reputable state school has nothing to do with it, since accredidation is looking at a one specific program withon one department. Harvard's APA accredidation took quite a while, for example, for various reasons.

You can read all the accreditation documents on the CoA web site, and the AOP is here

I don't think timelines can be predicted. If the site visit is not already scheduled, I would not assume it would be scheduled within the time you need it to be.
