Since most have been accepted for Fall 2008 its time to talk about the new application period. I just finalized all the teachers/pharmacists that will be writing me my letters of recommendations. Someone told me that PharmCas is allowing 4 letters of recommendation for this application period. Does anyone know if this is true?

I dunno anything about pharmcas but this can be a great thread for getting familiar with each other. I am a Fall 09 applicant too !:luck:

I'm not sure if it is true, but if it is, you might have to specify which recommendations you want schools to consider. Schools usually have a 3 recommender maximum requirement.

I'm a Fall 2009 applicant as well...trying to decide whether or not I just want to stay close to home or consider applying out of state. Not excited for a stressful year!! I will be so happy when its all over.

all i know is that UCSF is accepting 4 applications for 2009, and their guidelines for the letters aren't as strict- e.g. they don't require a professor to be a reference this time around. i asked about other schools, but they suggested i call them all individually. hope that helps

Hello all...I am also a 2009 applicant. Is anyone applying to Fiek San Antonio or any accelerated pharmd programs? please share your knowledge if possible...

Add me to the list:hardy:
BTW, does anyone know if any other schools have gotten web-based programs yet other than Creighton? I heard that many schools have been trying to impliment such programs, but I have yet to see any others.

I'm applying for Fall 2009 as well. I'm not looking forward to the whole application process. Is having all 4 letters of reccomendation from pharmacists ok? I don't really know any of my professors very well, and i don't really feel like they know me well enough to write a LOR. I've been working in pharmacy for 6 years now and I'd much rather have the pharmacists I've worked with write my LORs.

Reapplicant here...hoping to get into pharm school for Fall '09!! Good luck to us all!!

Fall 2009 applicant here also 😀 I will be applying to two maybe three schools this year. I don't really want to have to deal with the PCAT so one of the schools is a maybe! It looks like we are going to be going through this together, so lets support everyone along the way!

Potential Fall 2009 re-applicant here. What screwed me over during the last period was relying on LoRs from a professor who did not send them in on time. When I started applying, I thought an academic reference was a requirement. I've been a pharmacy technician for two years and have a few pharmacists that were willing to write LoRs, but I turned them down in favor of my professor.

Is there potentially something wrong with only having pharmacists complete my LoRs, or would this be a viable approach? I need to do everything I can if UTA decides they don't have enough room for me this year.

I am a 2009 re-applicant as well...what is everyone's GPA looking like so far? I have a 3.2 and I am very scared that I am once again going to be rejected by schools 🙁

Don't be discouraged! Take classes over summer and make sure you make good grades over summer and fall to raise that GPA. But its not everything...PCAT score, experience, etc. can help counteract a low gpa.

I'm a Fall 09 applicant also. How many schools are yall applying to? I'll be applying to 3 that all closely match the prereqs that I'll be able to complete by next Summer. If I dont get accepted, then I'll be applying to as many as I can next year.

Unfortunately there is nothing really for me to take over this summer so I will have to wait til Fall so I am worried my GPA is not going to go up very much 🙁

Good luck to all of those that are applying for Fall 09 start. It can be a stressful experience so be prepared

This is weird... feels like yesterday I was finalizing my PharmCAS and requesting my references.

To the OP: make sure you full faith in the people providing you with LOR's (and that they'll write you an exceptional letter).

Hey all! I am pretty confident in the professors/pharmacists writing my LORs. From reading all the posts on here, I hear the key is to apply early. I am hoping to have everything submitted by August right after I graduate with my BS. I will be doing a one-year MBA during the application cycle. Should be an exciting/stressful time for us all.

Hi Guys/gals -

I'm returning to school after about 5 years to pursue a career in Pharmacy. I start back up this summer at a community college. The only pre-reqs I have to take (since I took all the others as part of my B.S.) are: (1) Gen. Bio II, (2) Organic Chem I and II, and (3) Anatomy & Phys I and II. I plan on taking Bio II this summer, and then the fall and spring semesters I will take Organic and A&P.

Because I probably won't have Organic II or A&P II done before applying, would you guys say that is a problem? Also, how tough is the PCAT? I did really well in Chem I, II, Bio I, and Physics I and II, but just have to review the material. My science GPA is about a 3.6 so far.

Fall 2009 applicant here (zomg).

After this semester Ive got Physics II and the PCAT to take. Then its picking up a tech job for experience. LORs arent an issue....just need to send the emails requesting them when PharmCAS opens up.

Its go time. :meanie:

You should get at least one professor to write a letter. Most schools have that as a requirement.

Time flies as we're having fun with the application process. Congrats on your multiple interview invites and acceptances! Are you still set on Mercer?

After interviewing at UF and UNC... I have a lot of thinking to do.

GPA is not everything - your interview and recommendations count too! chin up! you'll be fine ^_^
