I need some feed back from someone who is also applying this June. I'm done with almost everything except my core science class, so this is what I expect to do:

Summer 2005
Chem 1

Fall 2005
Physics 1
Chem 2
Biology

Spring 2006
Organic 1
Physics 2
Zoology

Summer 2006
Organic 2

Apply on June 1 take the August MCAT and hope for the best.
All of my my other pre-req classes are A's and B's.

Is this a reasonable timeline for a chance to get in? I'm a nontrad from Oklahoma with great life experiances but some retakes and W's on my transcript. I'm applying to almost all the osteo schools, I don't care where I get in as long as I do. Any advice would be great.

See if you can take Gen chem 1 and 2 this summer, many schools offer them back to back. If you can do that then you can probably take the MCAT next spring which is the strongly recomended time to take it. August is to be avoided if at all possible. That is the best advice I think anyone can give you on SDN but I am sure someone will disagree. Good luck you have much studying still in your path to your dream! :luck:

You are going to take the MCAT without any college physics, Biology, or Orgo? Sounds like disaster to me, I would wait to take next April MCAT and apply next summer.

You cannot apply to medical school this summer and take next April MCAT, sorry.

Just out of curiosity what other pre req's are there? Osteopathic schools do not require Calc. Are you referring to behavioral sciences or something?

I guess I should have been a little more specific. I'm not very good at calculating when to take mcat ,classes etc. I plan on applying to aacom june 2006 and the only thing my application will be waiting on is the august 2006 mcat. Is this reasonable? I know a lot of post say the april mcat is the best but I just don't think I will be ready april 2006 only having chem 1 and 2. If I can afford it I plan on taking the kaplans study course(1486 dollars damn!) before the late mcat to better my chances at a good score.

You need to the take the following classes BEFORE taking the MCAT:

Gen Chem 1 & 2
Gen Bio (or Zoology) 1 & 2
Organic Chem 1 & 2
Physics 1 & 2
1 additional Bio (such as Genetics, Physiology, or Cell Biology)

Yeah I didnt read the part were you said you were going to take the MCAT THIS AUGUST. That is INSANE. DO NOT DO THIS UNDER ANY CIRUMSTANCE, unless you somehow are able to obtain the correct answers before the test and in that case you have serious integrity issues. I repeat DO NOT TAKE THE MCAT THIS SUMMER. Take gen chem 1 and 2 this summer and then take the MCAT next April.

I don't believe you need orgo 2 for the MCAT, although it is a pre-req for med school. I would take Genetics instead since they have replaced much of the orgo questions with genetics. Taking the August MCAT isn't ideal and if you can you should take it in April, but if you must take it in August it won't be a disaster, just a set-back. Good luck

My girlfriend just took the MCAT, and said that most of the organic she had on the test was from the second semester.

It depends on the form. It could be mostly orgo. I heard some people had that in April (check the MCAT forum).

Interesting, when I studied for the MCAT last year I remember reading that a good portion of Orgo was replaced with Genetics. Oh well, just goes to show you that you should always take advice here for what it's worth and look for official answers.

The year I took it, 2003, was the first year they took away some organic chem and added genetics.

It remains the same today, so you are correct.
