time from AMCAS to med schools

does anyone know approximately how long it takes for AMCAS to release your application to the medical schools you have chosen to apply to? (assuming you did everything correctly) i'm trying to figure out when to ask for my letters of recommendation so that they'll be ready by secondary time - a few of the places i'm applying to have automatic secondaries.

I would call the schools and check, if you're not careful you might have to submit LOR's twice because they won't keep anything until they have a file on you.

Schools can see when you have submitted your AMCAS, and those schools with automatic secondaries will usually send them to you then. Other schools wait until AMCAS is done verifying your AMCAS application which typically takes about 2 or 3 weeks I believe. Schools view AMCAS information online, so as soon as AMCAS verifies your application (they will send you an email letting you know when they have finished this) those schools can see your application.

For the most part this is not true. I had my letters sent in before I was finished with AMCAS both years I applied and I think I only had to resend letters to one school. They just will not review your file until they have everything from you: letters, AMCAS, secondaries and application fees.
