I am wanting to leave my IM program.... Before I matched I wanted to do cards... after I matched and had more cards rotations and realized i didnt want to do cards. I want to pursue a career in anesthesia and would like to do it at the institution I am at. What is the time line for getting things rolling. I plan on staying at my program and honoring my commitment...please no responses like try to stick it out maybe youll like this or that... I hate rheum, dont like GI and so on... Please help with advice like you need to talk to your PD by this day...
You should talk to anesthesia PD by this day... try and do this

How does this whole thing work

Most people informally talk with the anesthesiology PD first about the fact that you are considering switching to anesthesiology and wanting to " get his advice". He may be able to give you some insight as to whether there might hypothetically be a place for you there or not. Or he could give you a heads up that you are totally not going to be considered a good fit, etc. Would be good to explore that before you talked to your PD or you can end up quickly in a bad position. Until you do that, all of the timing issues are pretty irrelevant.
