Did your dental schools give you any time off for studying before taking National Bds Pt. I? Or did you have to study strictly while in school? If they gave you time off, how much time did you get? Did you think that the time off was helpful? The curriculum committee at my school is curious about this. I'd appreciate it if you could mention what school you go to (mine is UNLV). Thanks.

At UB, you take a board review course at the end of second year and then schedule the exam for whenever you think you'll feel ready over the summer. I think most took it sometime in July, but you'll have to ask how often it's offered. (I'm going to try to take it early since I want my Mass. hygiene license so I can have pts over the summer)

Does UB have a summer session? Do you guys get some time while you are not in school to study? Or do you have a few weeks off after spring semester to study? Thanks.

@ Maryland, we take boards after 1st year. we have the entire summer off (June, July, August) and must take the boards before returning to school.

jb!🙂

Sorry, I must have been unclear. The board review course you take is at the end of your second year (during a time called "spring extension" which comes after finals but includes a few classes.) Then you can schedule the boards for whenever you want over the summer, so you can have as much or as little time once you're out of school as you want.

We have something similar at UCSF. After D1, we have from mid-June to the end of September off. While it's not required that we take Part I, we are allowed to go ahead and do it if we want. I was kinda thinking of studying this summer and getting that thing taken care of. I've heard from many D2s that it makes life a lot easier.

at tufts you don't get any time off. board reviews are the week after spring break. there's an exam block at the beginning of june. you're required to take the boards before june 30th. you're also expected to go to classes and start seeing patients.

Case expects us to take the boards in December. They gave us a kaplan review course Oct 1-5th, and they're also ending the semester a week before thanksgiving (July 30th-Nov 16th). Sounds like they're doing more for us than some schools.

To reiterate, yes, the thread was asking about any time off (vacation, whatever) that your school gives you to study for boards. UNLV is a 12 month school, we usually only get vacation in 1-3 week increments.

Another question: are the board review courses that your school offers attendence mandatory or do you just go if you want to??? Does your school offer any board review class at all or are you on your own??

Thanks for all the replies so far. This has been very informative.

how r u already in a school, nd still not given ur NBDE -1 , i mean can foreign dentists get admission in US in dental schools without NBDE?😕
