time to freak out?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You shouldn't be freaking out, I think with your stats you are OK. It depends on where you applied but I think you have a shot at post-Dec interviews. Everyone here is waiting, you just have and be patient because it takes 3+ months to hear back from most schools.

i know its a bit early....i appliked a bit late (mailing 9/24), but reading all these forums is freaking me out! i have a 3.25 and 21/21/22 on dat with a solid upward trend. should i be freaking out???:scared:

If you tell everyone what you are freaking out about, maybe we can make some progress and have you sleeping like a baby tonight...

Well where did you apply and whats your state residency? The school you go to for undergrad might play a role as well.

i applied to alot of schools, bu, nyu, midwestern, usc, temple, tufts etc. im an ohio resident but can't apply to OSU cuz i dont have 20 hrs at a general practice, i did all my shadowing hours at an ortho/pedo and an oral surg clinic.

And we're making progress. This is good. I bet you feel better already. Tell us more. Do you have any interviews? Troubles at home?

lol what an ass. i dont have interviews thats why im tripping out! tell me, do you have any troubles at home? is that why ur a sarcastic prick on sdn?

if you didn't even do 20 hours, then they will question that about your app. It is looking very shaky right now..

ive done 50, but just not at a general practice office. osu requires 20 hrs at a general practice and can't be at a teaching institution.

shouldn't shadowing a a general practice be where you start? that should be a given, why not put that on your app. and you do your hours this week.

Haha, my bad. I'm sorry. And yes, i don't think my parents love me. But on a more serious note, I was seriously curious why you were freaking out, cause your stats are solid... But now that you say you have no interviews I understand. No hard feelings. And I honestly believe you will get an interview or two, it just may not be till post december.

You did apply to tough schools though

I think he/she actually applied to pretty decent schools for those stats. You should be able to get some post-december interviews. Don't stress too much yet, I know its hard not to.

you missed some of your school invites like pre Dec invites for BU and Tufts by applying late. I applied 7/24 and got invite to NYU early Oct so they are pretty much not even seen your appl yet. I would call to every schools and verify if they have everything.
So to answer your question yes, it is too early to freak out yet. If you do not see invites by the end of Nov early Dec coming your way, then you could start being persistent, maybe send additional LOE, pick up 30 hrs of GP dentist shadowing, etc- you know that Tufts requirement, right? along with LOE stating your hrs, maybe even send letter of interest to schools like NYU etc. I am not sure if Tufts is ok with 30 hrs of shadowing a specialist, you might have to check with them.

I am in the same boat as you. Mailed 10/05. I think the general consensus after browsing SDN is that it really does take a long time, and we probably won't get pre-Dec, but will get interviews eventually.

Just a question for the others - I am scared of calling dental schools to check if they've received everything. Is this generally accepted as an okay thing to do? Do you just call the general admissions number?

Yes and yes.
