On Average, how much time did you spend studying for the OAT (hours/week) and for how long (weeks, months?). I'm starting to studying for my OATs right now and I have about 6 weeks until my scheduled exam date -- is that enough time along with my classes? I am taking three science classes right now (bio-chem, cell molecular biol, and advance physio). In 6 weeks, do you recommend reading the whole kaplan book?

What I recommend is...
1.) buy the OAT destroyer
2.) get ahold of the kaplan flashcards
3.) do question after question of the OAT destroyer...atleast 50-100/day (dont get frustrated if you get a lot wrong...just do them, go over the answers, and do more. Once you have done of the questions...do them over again.)
4.) in your free time go over the flashcards many times over
5.) 2-3 days prior to OAT...do the opted sample OAT
6.) score well on the OAT

I can almost gaurantee that if you were to follow these steps you will get >350 on the OAT.

dedicate about 1-1.5 hours per day of solid studying...and I mean SOLID...it is very doable.

Albeit over the summer...I did 2 hours/day using the same steps as above and scored an AA of 380 and TS of 390.

i started about two weeks prior to my exam, and it was the beginning of the school year so i didnt have much work to do. i studied hard, but i did not do well at all...
since you're actually taking classes, it should help a little bit, but dont waste any time at all between now and then. i'm not saying you need to study 24/7 until then, but just keep your mind focused on that goal. make sure you strengthen any weak subjects and make yourself some kind of schedule to complete before the exam. good luck!

Hey did you happen to study the kaplen exams and the Kaplan book? Or did you only focus on the OAT destroyer??

I began studying three-days prior to my OAT. I studied for about 15 hours in total. I went over a couple physics concepts, some ochem/gchem, did 2 practice OATs and went over all questions I got wrong.

It looks like you're a bio major, you'll likely have no problems with that section.

I did pretty well, maybe I lucked out but it really isn't that hard of a test, especially if you've written the MCAT

i did the kaplan practice tests, but i never took the course. i also used the oat achiever, which was helpful in getting me used to the computerized tests. really, the only problem i had was bio because i havent taken the pre reqs for it yet. otherwise, most of the stuff was just review.

Thanks for all the advice! I will purchase the OAT destroyer and OAT achiever and start practicing! I feel a lot less stressed about the test now!

I took human physiology the first five weeks of the summer and spent the rest studying for the OAT. I started out with maybe 4 or 5 hrs a day for the first few weeks, took time off to visit schools and other random trips, and buckled down for 8 or 9 hr days for the last two weeks. The hardest part about studying is taking the practice tests; not only do they take 4 hrs to actually take, but then you have to go back and see what you missed, why you missed it, and understand the concept. the last couple of weeks were rough, but I ended up with a 360 so it was well worth it.

I guess it all depends on the student, study method, and desired score. I started studying four days before the exam for four hours each and did just fine.

I also thought the OAT destroyer was WAY over the top. If anything, I used it as a reference to the Kaplan book and nothing more.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't panic too much and wear yourself out. The test is on all accounts doable.
