Hi yall,

It's me again, a total newbie to the forums but I have a question for anyone who can help me. I am a pre-med major (junior year) and i'm graduating a year early (!)

So, pharmacy really makes me happy and I enjoy it (working as a pharmacy tech @ walgreens) and i feel more confident about pharmacy school than I ever felt about medical school. So, mainly the reason for my change of heart is confidence and happiness...

That said... I've been doing my research and I understand most pharmacy programs (pharmD) are 4 years. How time consuming is this? What is the average amount of time spent in classes/labs/etc and the amount of time generally required for studying?

Sorry, I really don't know much about pharmacy school or anything for that matter! 😛

I just started school last month, and I must say that I'm going at least 4 hours everyday (2 in the morning and 2 later in the night). More when exams are coming up.

P1.. classes r mainly 8-12 for most days.. but things change a little when we're on externships (ie. more hours).

study wise... first few weeks of school i studied roughly 5 hrs a day (b/c i knew i won't hv time to study when i'm on my externships)

then when externships started i cut my study hours back to 2-3 hrs a day...

this week is kind of hectic because i have 2 midterms, 1 case study due, and on externships (so i don't even get off until 6pm) 😱

with that said, i'm going study 😴

good luck!

sorry...stupid question. what's an externship?

externship - a non-paid internship (we get a grade for it)

nope....

it depends on the state....

the terminology is a law thing...

Geez, 4 hour school days? That would be awesome. We were in school from 7:30 AM-2:30 PM during my P-1 year.

Let me tell you about my first year of pharmacy.

I'm doing seven courses.

I am in school roughly 830-5 everyday. Tuesdays and wednesdays I have class from 7-10pm, and 7-930 pm, respectively.

The tuesday nights is only a 6 night thing (public speaking program). There is absolutely no time in the day to study and, to compare to amount/sheer volume of work i'd compare it to finals week doing my pre reqs (chem phys bio math etc)

So basically, it's a jump similar to the one from High School to University, then University to Pharm School.

In terms of homework on top of the 30 hour workweek I could easily do 3-5 hours a day. I'm averaging 2-3 right now. Consider it a full time job while doing overtime.
