When is the latest you would recommend taking the DAT to apply to dental school? I'm planning for December of 2005 for Fall 2006 admisssion. Is that advisable? Is it better to wait until Summer of 2006 and go for a Fall 2007 admission?

In my opinion, you'll want to take it earlier than December. Many (or most) schools won't even consider your application complete and ready to review until you've taken the DAT. Many recommend taking the DAT by October at the latest in order to remain competitive.

It's still possible to get in if you take it in December, but it decreases your chances dramatically depending on where you apply. Keep in mind that schools will have already begun accepting students by December 1st.

Agreed. You'll need to take it a lot earlier to maximize your chances. In fact, since the cycle starts in mid-May, ideally you should have your entire app including the DAT done by then.
