Timing of Step 2

Hi guys,
I had a quick question as to when to take the step 2. I was planning on taking it at the end of September. My question is this: if I take the test at the end of September will my scores be back in time for residency programs to use them in deciding whether or not to grant me an interview. I have an OK step I score, and it seems pointless to take step II early and do well if the decisions to grant interviews have already been made based only on my Step I score. Any thoughts?

Just from talking with people who applied to residencies last year, I'm under the impression that schools will hold your application sometimes until they see your Step II scores. by the way you may get more looks at your post if you post in the step II forum...
