So like many of you I am applying this cycle, and I am graduating this year (probably). I am Canadian, so unfortunately there is a high chance that I won't get in anywhere this year due to the competition. Therefore, my marks matter this year should I have to reapply.

However, I have been having trouble motivating myself this semester. I've just been going through the motions and on cruise control (also working quite a few hours at a job + video games + anime). I focused pretty hard my first 3 years of undergrad (no video games, TV etc) and messing around has never been a part of my code. This year I just can't seem to motivate myself.

Do any of you have any tips on what you have been doing to stay motivated? I know this sounds like a silly thread (I'm cringing a bit writing this as I am usually an intrinsically motivated individual) but I really need to get my **** together before finals. If this thread is inappropriate or needs to be moved somewhere else just let me know.

Cliffs:
- Canadian, might have to reapply
- Can't take school seriously for some reason
- Needs to get out of funk before finals/final projects are due
Thanks fam

Yeah, for me, the fear of getting anything less than an A or A- on my transcript has been a pretty good motivator. Throughout my undergraduate career, my absolute lowest grade was a B which still pisses me off to this day.

I teach bio classes at my uni to freshman, I always tell them that the best way to focus is to be happy. Take breaks, workout, and have a non-intrusive but healthy social life. Studies show that it's easier to retain info when we allow ourselves to be distracted every now and then so we can take micro breaks!

Set a list of things that you have to do today, and then get those done. Doesn't matter what you do or how your time is spaced, as long as those things are done before you go to bed.

Yeah keeping up good grades for dental school was my biggest motivator. Fortunately a B wouldn't stop someone from getting any interviews.

What Charles said, make a list of the school things you need to accomplish for the day, and check them off as you accomplish them. Also, try to take a 5 minute break every 25-30 minutes. I'm Canadian as well, and my motivation is a bit dwindled this semester (especially juggling 6 different courses), but I know I have to get through this and I'll be happier if I got through it with good marks and hopefully acceptances.

Thanks fellow canadian. Are you applying to any Canadian schools?

I'm not since I would have no chance applying as a 4th year, plus my GPA isn't 3.85-3.9.

Ah I hear you bro. I only applied to a few canadian schools this year RIP

Might apply to the states in the future

Didn't realize this was you who posted this haha. As you probably already know, my motivation is NARUTO

Nah, they're actually pretty chill. My mom's a teacher though so she always encourages good grades.

Ah okok that's solid.

I guess mine are similar. Encourage/value education but try to be somewhat chill and understanding as well.

HAHAH how long did you study for the DAT man??? 300 episodes is a lot 😛
Haha yeah I did watch it pretty aggressively. I studied all together for about 3 months though and got real serious the last 3 weeks (which sucked because I had to pretty much cut out the show).

You really love Naruto, Idk how I'm going to live without it when it comes time to take my DAT.

HAHA aren't you still in high school? Don't stress out too much about the DAT yet 🙂

I do admire your motivation/ambition though!
