Hi everyone,
I am a non-traditional student trying to apply for medical school in Texas. I do have a bachelor degree from overseas, and I am currently enrolled at a 4 year college in the US to finish at least 90 credit hours ( prerequisites and other courses as well). I had to evaluate my foreign transcripts in order to apply for college. I was given transfer credits of 116 credit hours, they are showing up as transfer credits accepted by institution on my transcript. Also, there is institution credits on my transcript. Each one of them has a separate GPA but there is overall GPA and overall credit hours. My transfer credits are not listed lump sum on my transcript. They are listed individually with semester credit hours and GPA based on the evaluation that was submitted during admission. My question, will TMDSAS factor my transfer credit hours into my GPA or not.(my foreign course work was mainly science course work)?. Will TMDSAS only compute the overall GPA from the credit hours earned in the US including prerequisites?. would the medical school evaluate my application based on the 90 credit hours plus my bachelor or just the 90 credits hours in the US?.
Any input from someone familiar with this process or has the same scenario will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you accept foreign coursework?

No. State law requires that academic work taken at foreign colleges, universities or preparatory schools shall be excluded from the calculation of the grade point average for students seeking admission to graduate or post-baccalaureate professional school.

Foreign coursework will not count towards satisfying any of the required coursework.

Undergraduate foreign coursework that appears as transfer credit on the transcript of a regionally accredited US college will count towards the 90 hour requirement. Each individual transfer course credit granted by the US school must be listed on the transcript. Lump sum credit with no specific course and hour identification will not be accepted.

Costales, Thank you for your response. I have seen this on TMDSAS website, but I am confused because mine are listed as individual courses. does this mean they will meet the requirement for the 90 credit hours only and will not calculated into my GPA even though they still factor in my overall GPA at the institution?.

TMDSAS actually cited state law verbatim (http://tinyurl.com/mz2lt28). Since foreign coursework is excluded from any type of GPA calculation, your GPAs can only include credits earned in the U.S. You should give TMDSAS a call to confirm.
