really sorry if this question has been asked before but I cannot find anything current.

So in the past it seems like the personal statement asks for motivation and future goals and philosophy of medicine. But is this the same for the new application.

Currently on TMDSAS it says,

The personal essay asks you to explain your motivation to seek a career in medicine. Be sure to include the value of your experiences that prepare you to be a physician.

The essay is limited to 5000 characters, including spaces."

http://www.utsystem.edu/tmdsas/medical/section_Overview.html

It doesn't mention anything about future goals or philosophy making it pretty much the same as AMCAS. Does the more specific prompt come later in the real application? Or is this the actual prompt?

Thanks for the help.

I think in essence it has always been the same as AMCAS. "Motivation, future goals, and philosophy of medicine" is just a different way of asking "Why medicine?" Keep it personal and prosaic. Don't get preachy or too esoteric. Don't make up definitions about what makes a good doctor - ADCOMS don't like to be lectured. Just be honest, professional, genuine, and thoughtful. Check out the official PS guide (it is stickied). Most people should just write one PS that is under 5000 and use it for both AMCAS and TMDSAS.

Sure, I see what you're saying. However, I wasn't planning on including any future goals or my thoughts on the philosophy of medicine. If I need to address those points I need to change my PS a lot...

Which is correct?

TMDSAS does ask a slightly different question, but it's essentially the same. If you AMCAS essay fits in the character limit for TMDSAS, you could use that.

They also have 2 optional essays, which you can fill out too.

(AMCAS doesn't have any optional essays)

IMO the prompt can be largely ignored as long as you're writing about why you want to be a doctor/significant experiences that add into that goal. They all read as various ways of asking this same question anyway.
