Hey guys,

I am really interested in PM&R. But I did not pass of first attempt and got 437 on the second attempt. 🙁

What are my chance? If so, what are the low tier programs? What should I do to make my application stand out? Thanks again. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Many programs state on their websites that they will not consider an application if the applicant did not pass on 1st attempt for COMLEX / USMLE (or have a failure of any kind).

Research will always help an application. Get involved in meaningful ECs--they don't want to see the fluff (Secretary of blank, Student Member of blank, etc.).

Good luck.

Do well on rotations. Impress the right people to get a good letter.
Do well on step II (take it before you apply).

Don't waste your time on extra curriculars, they are absolutely meaningless/useless wastes of time in this process. Its test scores/grades/clinical performance on rotations that matters. All else is a product of high school-undergrad culture of doing ECs.

May I ask what's PM&R? Will students have hard time matching into FM or IM residency if they fail the their 1st attempt?

Physical med and rehabilitation, and no. They shouldn't have too hard of a time matching IM and FM if they apply broadly. It just looks bad and some places (PMandR, FM, and IM) wont even look at your app if you fail, but some will.

Which program should I apply too? Which are the Middle-low tier PM&R programs? Thanks again. Which schools would i have a better chance of getting into?

What school are you coming from if you dont mind me asking... or at least what area of the country....
