So I found this website where you sign up for free and you get to watch surgery videos. They are very educational. Furthermore, they even have surgeries scheduled to be done live. I'm not sure if you need to have a premium account so you can watch some videos, though. I'm not trying to spam this website, just giving some valuable info. 🙂

P.S. This website can also be helpful for surgical residents.

OrLive has scheduled Live Surgeries that can be, obviously, appreciated online. e.g. Open Craniotomy.
There is no subscription method (no charge), but an account is required. It should take less than 5 minutes to set up your account.
During a Live operation the viewer can ask questions regarding the procedure, technique, and more. Just be sure to complete the "Question" box, enter your name, and submit. These questions are answered in real time by the surgeon.

Hmmm anybody have an input to this? I think it can be an EC. You are learning about surgery and you are doing it in your own time. Hobby? EC?

Restrain yourself from talking about those tv shows during interviews. I lol'd internally at someone that came up with Dr Oz last year. However, I can gladly have a 30-minute talk about NCIS without getting mad. Family loves the show.

1.Neither. The only DD and BB I allow are in size. :naughty:
2.Neither. Takes years to reach an Administrator seat.
 
Talking about either show is fine. Of course, bringing up Duck Dynasty would be more "unique" compared to everyone and their grandma's nephew's transgender brother talking about Breaking Bad ad nauseum.

Maybe If I started watching it I'd figure out why...

lol :laugh: I see that you are a resident. What's your specialty?
 
Maybe...too early to make a definite decision yet. If I was to do a fellowship, I would most likely be interested in Sports Medicine. Maybe a HIV fellowship as an alternate option if I choose to. With Sports Medicine, I plan on getting more exposure to that during my 2nd year and seeing if it's for me. I had a rotation in med school, but I felt it barely scratched the surface. With the HIV fellowship, it's an area that interests me clinically, but the big question is "Is the fellowship worth it?". I don't know any fellows and I believe the programs are limited, so it's kind of a blurry area. But, it's just a "food for thought" kind of thing.


Or...I say screw fellowships, and jump into private practice 😛

Yeah, me too. Once I'm at that point and hopefully I got a good score on the Step 1 I would like to do Ortho, but focus on sports medicine.

Private practice FM it does make money. 😀 My professor's wife is FMP in a FM PP (private practice) the patients come in everyday. 👍

I am just a pre-med with absolutely no idea about any specifics about surgical procedures (as I'm assuming many are?) I don't really know more than what is being taught in my chemistry and biology class as of right now.
I just wanted to ask... I thought that I might be interested in some surgical specialty. I read somewhere that surgeons have a "see it, fix it" type of mentality rather than "take this and see if you feel better in a week." That seems like something I would be interested in. However I just watched a bi-cruciate stabilized total knee replacement. I wasn't completely grossed out that I had to look away, but seeing that initially made me flinch a bit. After a few minutes I was more used to seeing it, and kind of trying to pretend that it wasn't even a human leg. I have never watched a surgery before this, and even through a computer screen I was a bit taken back at first. When any of you guys watched your first surgery, did you have a similar reaction? I'm assuming that I will get used to it during gross anatomy in med school, but do those that go into surgical specialties have NO reaction whatsoever to watching operations right off the bat? Thanks guys!

You get use to it if you really love what you are seeing. Most of t them time I'm excited to see the procedures get done. Furthermore, there is one procedure in cosmetic plastics that did freaked me out on the first time I saw it, it was a abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

Thanks man! I also love this guy's Youtube channel, he shows a lot of repairs of congenital heart defects. One of the first things that caught my eye and made me think of surgery...

Oh, I think it was you who showed me this guy's vids one day (I thought it was Touchpause13) and I said I was thinking of doing peds CT surgery, but then I didn't know if my hands would be good enough for those type of surgeries. I'll put the link on the main post.
