Beuller.... Beuller....?

Anyway to those 1st years, what do you think of the 2nd year schedule they put up? Oh and when the he(( are they going to put the class of '04's match list up on the academic webpage?

common second years, throw us a friggin bone....

re the second year schesdule, i think it's ******ed that we have all those "light"courses in the beginning after being well rested. why not put them at the end to give us a break before boards. I also really can't imagine how it's going to be w/neuro those 2 blocks. remember the second years and how much they were freaking out block 4 and 5? well add neuro to the mix, and i heard that's taught horribly.
but, i guess we will have to get through it. what do you make of it CowboyDO?

I completely agree w/ you, they should move a class or two to the first block so we don?t get slammed 4th or 5th block. Also, look at our block now (its real easy) and this year has me pretty burnt out. I could barely study for PDx. I dont know how, after having all those classes at the end, I'm going to have the stamina to make it to the boards.

2nd year sucks. it is a lot more work, albeit a lot more interesting. i think it was hard enough w/o neuro, i can't imagine how bad it will be for you. the reason they won't put the fluff classes at the end of the year are because they are low-yield for the boards. having neuro, muscculoskeletal, and OB at the end of the year will help some. reviewing neuro now is difficult cause we took it during 1st year. i would suggest having the easy classes during first year, and moving one of the systems up to first block. good luck next year, and for god's sake do something fun for you last summer off.

that 2nd yr schedule is brutal to tell you the truth......by the end of 2nd yr most of my class (along with myself) were burnt and i cannot imagine how you will be able to get through neuro along with all the other classes (OBGYN, MSM, etc.)... 😱 ..one thing i can advise though is learn your neuroanatomy/neurology well bc it was well represented on my comlex and my usmle......

good luck......

i know this doesn't pertain to the post but when do you all start rotations my fellow nycom collegues

rotations start july 5th.. anyway as far as second year goes.. its long.. someone else who has posted on this thread told me that and at first i didnt believe him.. but i definitely do now. I think have since like second block.. good luck to the first years with neuro thrown in there.. its not an easy course, but you can manage. study, but dont waste time dwaddling on the little courses at the beginning of the year, just learn it, regurgitate it and get through it. pray you still get reviews in all the systems classes we got reviews in (cardio, GI, renal, etc) they are true helpful "hints" to the exams....

i didn't really have many problems in second year...i actually liked it much better than the first. i like learning things in context, as opposed to memorizing random science facts. second year is much more clinical, which i loved...and you get lots of actual physicians who come in to teach you and share their experiences and patient stories with you--i thought it was pretty cool.

with that said, second year is ALL about budgeting your time. and you guys, you'll have Neuro second year now...so all I can say is be super-organized and on top of things. the courses are "integrated" so you have to learn path, pharm, and clinical stuff on a particular system--it's tough. respiratory and cardio were probably the hugest and toughest tests--resp i think had like 150 questions on it!!! also, it got hard around the end, too. our last block, we had women's health, muskuloskeletal med, tox and OMM...this doesn't sound like much but both women's health and muskuloskeletal are HUGE classes, encompassing a TON of info (muskuloskeletal was rheumatology+orthopedics+physical therapy+pharm for all the above+muskuloskeletal path). and you guys are gonna have neuro on top of that, so it will get crazy. no doubt about it. but for the upcoming year, hopefully one not-so-good pharm professor will be gone (which will make a real difference, trust me), and i hope to god they will change peds--that exam was totally not based on the course, and we spoke to the dean about it, and were promised an improvement for you guys.

just try to stay focused, don't get freaked out by the amount of work, plan your time well and work together with your classmates--i felt i wouldnt've passed 2nd year if it wasn't for the support our whole class had for each other. people would post their notes/review sheets on the webboard for all to see--it really made the whole experience much more bearable. remember, you guys are in this together!

oh, and the reason why you don't have a lot of 2nd year replies is b/c we just had our boards june 8th and 9th, and really no time for surfing SDN 🙂

good luck with second year and enjoy your summer!!!

...Oh yeah, still looking for our 2004 match list. In case anyone has it.

Cowboy, you are too funny
how is your summer? i have been laying on the couch and watching tv. i can't force myself to do anything. i was going to do some board sdtudying but i can't. i figure our first block is very easy so i will start then. when i look at our schedule for next year, it makes first year look easy 🙁

Im doing ok. I as well have done nothing, which is nice, but im starting to get a little stir crazy:scared:. I bought a new review book, and read if for an hour but thats the extent of my studying, I cant even make myself go to the gym. Oh well I'm going to live it up becasue next year is going to hurt...haha  (i laugh on the outside, but inside im actualy crying)

i hear u, i have like actual fear about going back. i had to go to NYCOM last week to meet with someone, and as i was driving in, i had like this punch in my stomach of this anxiety felt like on day 4 of exams. on a positive note, i think that next year they will be giving us weekends in the middle of exams to me, that makes a world of a difference. on the downside, it looks like our exams will be after vacations... 🙁

that match list is posted somewhere.. I dunno I have seen a hard copy of it.. keep looking if I hear more i'll let you know...

sweet...
thanks.

[Edit]: Hey, there it is. Its on the web page now.

About Neuro being put @ the end....

You will be surprised how much the class can help you out if you all stick together. If you looked @ our 2nd year postings on the webboard, we did try to help eachother out. It saved alot of time when people would split up lectures and transcribe them. Not to mention the knowledge you get from watching one good lecture 4 times straight to type down all the words...(fasten your seatbelts for nephro...)

Really, it's as bad as it gets, but it really would not be any other way. I have never heard any NYCOM student say that they had a fair or enjoyable 2nd year. Just please take your time and learn all you can for the boards. One month is not enough, and just learning your notes and reading books are alot better for boards prep than cramming at the end.

Just think, one more year of suffering at NYCOM and then you can stand on your feet for 12 hours a day during clerks....

Gotta love it!
