Hello,
I was wondering if dental schools care about minors. I can get a Chem minor because it is only 2 more chem classes. But, do I want to do that? I'm a junior right now and I was very happy to be done with chem. It seems like a lot of people are double majoring or have a minor. I have a 3.87ish and am majoring in cellular biology. Do you think its worth the trouble?

i'm not sure it matters, considering how they don't even care what we major in....

i'd say focus that time on extracurriculars instead...that might prove to be more helpful.

honestly? it probably doesn't matter. but if you want to do it, then do it for yourself. i'm getting a minor in chem and biochem, just because i've always liked both subjects.

i doub it will help for dental school, but it'll help me with my back up if i don't get in. (though i hope it doesn't come down to that. )

How comes everyone's motivation lies only on "if this will get me into dental school?"

You will get in with those grades. A minor will doubtfully make a difference. I would worry more about doing it for yourself, for the sake of learning, or accomplishment. Do our lives really have to revolve around dental school so much? Stop worrying about it and live your life. If you hate chem and it will be HELL for you, don't do it.

Next, we will probably see:
"I'm not sure if I should marry my girfriend or not? Will application committees see this as a positive or negative part of my application?"

I'm not trying to slam you but am trying to make a point. We should try our best to be well rounded people. . .not because it makes us look good on our application but because we want to improve ourselves for our own sakes. The average GPA for applicants is about 3.3. That means if you are above that you are about where you need to be and if you are below you still have a shot. Stop worrying so much and have some fun! You'll be fine.

Good luck.

i think i just had an orgasm

Do a minor if you like the subject, in your case it doesn't look like it, so don't do it.
Also if you do it, be prepared to answer the questions in the interview that will be thrown at you for picking that specific minor ( I was asked about my choice of minor in Business Studies more than about my major in Biology).
I remeber being in the same boat as you were last year, had only two courses to get the minor, and I have done so well in all the previous courses, but didn't like the two that I was about to take. I decided to do them anyways, and didn't end up doing so hot, they eliminated my chances of graduating with distinction 😱 so now I am really not happy.

I guess all I wanted to say is if you think that you will enjoy the courses then do them, if not, then just do a course you enjoy and will do well in.

Completely worthless IMHO. I did a double major in bio and chem and remember absolutely nothing. Well, I remember some things, but mostly nothing. It was just a stepping stone into dental school. Do you really want to make it harder on you to get those better grades?
