So i've been debating whether to take my Georgetown invite for an interview. The thing is i've gotten into my state schools (in SC) and can't decide whether the $50,000 a year pricetag and negative comments about Gtown recently on SDN are worth looking at in DC. Plus, i'm living in CA right now so that's a cross country flight with more expenses i don't have right now. Does anyone have any impressions of Gtown after interviewing there? Are the rumors true that it's a competitive group of students? I also heard the match list is pretty good but i haven't seen it anywhere for myself so I'll just take that statement with a grain of salt....Please, if anyone has any insights on the schools i would appreciate it sooo much so i can decide whether it's worth my time and money to fly across the country for an interview! Thanks!

I don't really think Georgetown's rep is strong enough to justify the extra cash you would have to spend to go there. Unless you have a thing with DC or there is something in particular you like about the school. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I have never been there. I am sure you can come out of there a great doctor but when you pay for a private (or out of state school) I feel like you are paying for wow factor to a certain degree and Georgetown probably doesn't have anymore wow factor than a state school in the medical world. At least to me. Besides Charleston is Beautiful and you like the beach. You might want to check out the match list thread for the Hoyas. I heard they have pretty good match results especially in surgery. However, this is probably a self-selecting phenomenon because their MCAT average is above the national mean and the students might nail the boards.

The only other considerations would be things like scholarships. Do you think your stats are good enough or your situation unique enough (socio/economically) to obtain a scholarship at Georgetown. If so you might want to check it out. Otherwise I say skip it.

Just an opinion from an unqualified observer.

skip it... is g-town 🙄
(pardon me, I just have a personal beef with their overinflated sense of self worth)

Haha...no love for Gtown in SDN huh.....

i didnt go to mine if that means anything to you. 😉

Georgetown's cost vs. its reputation and facilities is not worth it.

Do well in your state school , pay a lot less, get an excellent residency. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Regret the things you did rather than the things you DIDN'T do.
I think you should just go and interview at G-Town just so you can rule the "what ifs" and decide for YOURSELF if you like G-Town or not.

GTOWN has old buildings and a lot of those students there are snotty wealthy dudes/dudetts. The buildings are nasty and old...VERY OLD......EWWWWW!!!!

Curriculum is nice, professors are nice, there are hot guys there, I thought the students were very chill and cool! I agree the price tag is very steep....um....but hey, you'll be in a great shopping area 🙂 The area around GTOWN is great, there's lots of bars/clubs and you can get fake designer purses/glasses for cheap.

so yes, some luv here for GTOWN:clap:

No
I just agree with what some other posters have said. G-town just has poor facilities and a steep price tag. Futhermore, their reputation for that steep price tag is mediocre at best. Also, I found their admissions people to be arrogant, but that's not that important. And then there's that whole religion factor, depending on your preferences.
But, if G-town is the only place a person is accepted, then by all means one should go!! It's when you have a choice that you can consider the gravy.
