Hey all,

I've been thinking about studying abroad at the University of West Indies (UWI). Which is a better idea: Staying in the U.S. and studying dentistry or studying abroad? Below are the facts:

US Dental Schools
- requires interview
- requires DAT
- requires chem, bio, physics, organic chem
- 4 years
- not sure if I can get in

UWI
- requires no interview
- requires no DAT
- requires chem, bio, physics
- 5 years
- 90% sure I can get in
- cheaper ($6 TT = $1 US)
- must redo last 2 years of dental school in an accredited US school upon return to US.

So... which is a better idea for me?

thanks,

bus

YOu have to do the math:
5yrs at WIU + 2yrs at U.S. D. SCHOOL= how much?
Is that how much number above cheaper than the four years of U.S. dental schools.

Is it possible to get into the last 2 yrs at U.S dental school? What happened if you won't be able to get in the U.S. school to finish the last 2 yrs.

To me, even 7 yrs go smoothly is still not worth it compare with the four years program and DAT. The test is not that bad.

What kind of student loans will you be able to get at W.I.U? Will you be able to get Fed loans or you'll have to get private loans? It's gonna be expensive if you have to go the private loan way. And the interest can make it even more expensive than the U.S. dental school.

Definetly go to US Dental School. DAT is not that bad if you study. Interviews are not that as difficult as you think. Most of my interviews were mostly conversational. If go to schools outside of US, you still need to attend 2 yrs of school here.

Go to the international dental forum and see how much trouble they have getting into the two year programs. It is tough!!! A lot of them just end up doing the whole four year U.S curriculum anyway because there just aren't enough advanced slots to accomodate everybody. Definitely stay in the U.S.

What' s you stats? I will advice you to stay in the U.S, even if it takes you a year or so to get your stats straight. Just remember where there is a will, there is always gonna be a way to get things done. If you want it that bad, you shouldn't have problem sacrifying, and getting it done. DAT and interview is not that bad is this simple. You get what you put in.

My undergraduate GPA is a 3.2, with a major in English. I still have 2 more years to graduate. I haven't started my science requirements yet though (I start this summer). I definitely will stay in the US; thanks guys.
