So I have a Bio 2 class that I was given an IP in due to a death in my immediate family. I've since taken Chem 1, AP 1 and 2, Physics 1, English 1, Voice (dont ask), and all corresponding labs this semester.

I work full time as a sleep tech and have a baby on the way in Dec. (It's a boy!)

So for next spring, I want to take full time hours again. Do you think someone with what I have on my plate might be taking on to much with the following classes?

Bio 2, Chem2, Physics 2, English 2?

this IP in Bio 2 set me back a bit. Feels like my momentum is gone. My original plan was to take Micro and Organic 1 the same semester.

would it be better to take a class I was already passing during a short summer session, and fill in with an online history of some sort?

If I were you, i would take 2 science classes per semester just to be safe. 3 science classes plus english (urgh, i hate writing) is a lot of work. Newborn is a lot of work too. Take pity on yourself at least for the next semester and try to balance school and baby. Trust me, he will keep you up at night.

I'm working full time right now and taking Chem 1, Bio 1, Physics 1, and Calc. I'm getting A's in everything except for Chem which I will probably get a C. Looking back on it I dont think I would have take 3 science courses in one semester if I had the chance to do it again, one always gets neglected.

That sounds like too much to do when combined with a new baby to take care of. My schedule this semester is pretty similar, and there's no way I could do it and work more than 20 hours or so a week in a job. I don't really know how many hours childcare takes, but I'm guessing it's more than that.

I say you're better off taking fewer classes to guarantee a better gpa, given all of your other responsibilities. Delaying med school for a year because you had to pace your pre-reqs is better than applying sooner with a poorer gpa.

If this is your first baby - I would not even worry about trying to maintain going to school let alone take 4 full classes with labs, etc. Yikes, you have to plan for issues with labor, delivery, complications, sick baby, lack of sleep, how much help your spouse gives you, colic, nursing. Take it from someone who h ad every complication in the book - took me a year to recover from the second child. Medical school will always be there - it's hard to realize that when you are in the thick of it and want to get in so badly. I started medical school with two kids, did my post bacc with one. Way, way hard to do. Get some sleep, enjoy your baby, and take the classes when you have the energy, not because your mind thinks you have to do it now.

This is up to you and what you think you can handle. Personally, I wouldn't recommend taking more than two science courses, especially with a new baby on the way. My wife went through school with twin boys... but it's not easy. I am currently taking statistics, biology 2, physics 1, and organic chemistry 1. I'm getting three A's and a B in physics (I hate physics). This is a grind and I can't even imagine doing it with a new baby. Maybe if you have the best support system ever... but I would be wary. Congrats on your boy and good luck!

Thanks everyone.

I figure I am going to take Physics 2. It is just too easy of a class for me not to take. As far as the others, I might take a break. I need to continue Chemistry and lab because I am at a point that I feel I will lose knowledge if I let the gap between chem 1 and chem 2 get farther apart. I'll postpone bio 2 for the summer.

I NEED to take full time hours though for financial reasons. I get reimbursement from my full time job and working the minimum days for full time status due to the hospital cutting back on overtime, we depend on student loans and grants to help with living situation.

Chemistry 2, Physics 2, Online history and a kineseology class will probably be my setup.

I took Bio 2, Chem 2, English 2, Calc 1, Intro to Art Hist 1 and labs while working full time at the fire department and managed straight A's. So yes it is doable 👍

How did you manage straight A's? Lol what is your secret?!!! That is awesome!

COFFEE!!!!😀
Hahah.... I was very determined. I also had some good professors, two of which I had previously for Chem 1 and Pre-calc alg/trig. So I knew how to study for their exams from the get go. It was still a lot of work. I also skimmed by with a 92 in Bio II🙄
