Alright so here's the agenda behind this post, I have to vent my apprehensions and see if others are feeling the same way. So here goes.....

School A that I interviewed at told me flat out that they would make their decision and get letters out to students in maybe, possibly, somewhere around 4-8 weeks, (ie I have no idea when to expect a rejection/acceptance letter). School B that I interviewed at said they would make their decision on Oct 28th and send out letters the same day, so I should know by next Tuesday roughly.

My first impression was that not knowing when to expect a letter would be excruciating. However, now that I'm in the final countdown for School B it's driving me friggin nuts. I think I would rather not know when to expect a letter then to become a raving manic at the post office everyday.

So which is better, knowing or not knowing; or are they both a one way ticket to the looney bin?

Both = bin! This whole medical school application process = bin.

I vote for knowing. knowledge is power.

Seriously, though, I definitely prefer to have a set day (or a set few days in the case of snail mail) when I know I will get a response. It's better to be a maniac at the post office for a few days than a few months.

I'd rather know the day then go nuts for months at a time waiting, obsessively checking mail and email for decisions.... hmmm... this sounds rather like waiting for interviews.

yeah. I'd rather know there is one specific day they'll tell me so I can just be OCD for ONE day rather than 90 or 120 days.

Ditto!

At least they were kind enough to tell you when to expect it.
