Step I to randomize or not to randomize......

That is the question haunting me as I crack into Q-Bank. I think I asked this earlier, but Ill ask again since probably a couple of us have the same question.

For those who choose to randomize: Make a case as to why...

For those that prefer to do it by discipline, Why?

I do it both ways 😉

I do q bank every night. Some nights (like last) I do strictly one subject, like pharm, which I was banging my head against the wall studying beforehand.

Some nights I do 50 randoms. The last time I did that I got an 85% and felt on top of the world. Then the next day I did like 20 randoms and got 55%. 🙄

I do it based on my needs for the day.

I'm sure there will be subsequent posts that have completely different answers to your question.

I think that the questions that we do should be randomized. Ultimately, on the real thing that is the way that we are going to be tested.

Sometimes it is really hard to train your brain to go from a mechanism of a drug on one question to what nerve is damaged in this fracture on another question. (will take up time if you didn't "train" yourself to jump back and forth between subjects)
But for example if you are just doing Pharm, then your brain is in the "pharm mode" and it will be easier to recall pharm.

I just wanted to point out that if you had done 50 on the second say mentioned above you could have still scored almost an 85% if you had got the last 30 all correct!! I'm being silly of course, but it is apples and oranges, or at least pears.

I don't know how much of the q-bank you guys have gotten through but these questions are really starting to sound the same and the answers are repetitive.
Is it just me?

I guess Im going to randomize it. It kind of makes sense because if you exhaust your question supply (assuming you dont repeat) and choose to randomize in the days before the test, it will be heavily weighted towards a couple of subjects. The only thing I dont like about randomizing is that you dont get to reinforce something you studied for the day, i.e. no self assesment of your understanding of the material. I guess I can do USMLEasy for reinforcement (until the free month runs out). Or maybe BRS questions or something? USMLEasy? Anyone have any other ideas?

I use the Robbins Path book to reinforce the stuff I studied (path-wise) that day. I was initially trying to focus my Q-bank tests towards material I'd gone over, with a few "random" things thrown in (like Cell/Molecular Bio). However, now that I'm down to a month before the test, I may not get around to studying EVERYTHING, and I figured it was time to start getting into test mode. So now I do at least 1 randomized 50-question set per day. It's all random from now on....

I have also been doing both ways. I suck big time at Pharm and I need to be in the "pharm mode" a little bit in order to do the questions and learn from the answers. I think though toward the end, it will be random for the above reason of getting the brain in the "jumping around mode".
