I know this has been somewhat discussed but nothing in the search results are similar to my case. I interviewed at my state school this week (the first day of their interview season). They have decent instate bias (80% IS) and they talked a lot of building a diverse class that fits in with the school. This school is my first choice so I really want to get in. Is it appropriate to send a letter of intent telling them that the school is my first choice or discuss how I am a good fit for the school (what I liked about the interview and what was said, etc). All the other threads discussing this pertained to students who were interviewing later in the cycle around February and March or were put on a wait list. I was told I would receive a decision the week of Oct 15th. Is it appropriate to send a letter of interest or letter of intent? If so, which should and when should I send it?

I think a letter like that is inappropriate after an interview. What you can do is send an email thanking them for the interview and saw you look forward to hearing back. Keep in mind the schools are constantly getting new applications, reviewing current applicants, and giving interviews. They do not want more stuff to read. Anyone could write a letter saying " you program is the best! I am the best for your program! pick meEE!"
