I need a little advice. It looks like I am going to have to re-apply for 2006 (although the jury is still out for two schools). My stats were...29pMCAT, 3.3 overall, 3.34 science gpa. This year, which is a gap year, I took developmental biology and human physiology as post-bach courses (A's in both) and SIGNIFICANTLY increased my medical experiences/volunteer work.
MY QUESTION...
I am looking at taking a class again this summer (parasitology). Unfortunately the grade for this class will not show up on my AMCAS if I apply early (in June). Does this depreciate the value of taking the course? I know I can just send the schools my grade when I get it in August, but it just seems to me that it isn't quite the same as having one more "A" on my AMCAS. I'm just trying to decide if it is worth the my money and time, when my application will have been already sent. I could wait until august to apply so the grade will show up, but this seems like a pretty dumb idea just for 4 credits.

*oh yea, and if I do not enroll in the class, I will use the money to take a pretty sweet vacation to Wales 😛 I can't decide if this one class will make or break my chances of acceptance, and therefore worth skipping out on the trip. any input would my much appreciated.

I didn't see you mention any pros to taking the class. I think you have your answer.

Additionally, parasitology doesn't seem very relative to medical school. Are you just trying to boost your science GPA? One A isn't going to do much. Please don't take the following the wrong way (it reads worse than it sounds): Taking one class in the summer isn't really going to impress admissions committees.

APPLY EARLY! If you want to take additional courses in the fall, I'd suggest that instead.

Have fun in Wales!

If you were taking more than one class, my response would probably be different.

im taking summer school, and I had the same concerns, I asked the Admissions peple at some schools and they said to just apply early and then forward transcripts to the school as soon as the grades are available.
