Why is it that some schols just like to make life harder for folks?

Texas Tech University just told me that I must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) because I'm an international student. What the heck? I took this test in 2001 before I came to the US, and every other school that I've looked at waives the TOEFL requirement for people who already have a Bachelors Degree from a US university. I mean, if I made A's/B's in Comp I, Comp II and British Litereature, I think I'm proficient enough in English to be a pharmacist🙁

Now I have to cough up $150 for the frigging test! That's two supplemental application fees right there😡

Thanks for letting me rant - I think SDN makes for great therapy😛

Well....you may indeed be fluent in English, but too many are not. It has become such a problem that to graduate from CA pharmacy schools, you need to pass a verbal fluency test. Why? Too many pharmacacists couldn't be understood either in person & over the phone by others.

Since our job is based on how well we communicate....you have to be able to communicate well. Altho the TOEFL doesn't test verbal skills except in a written format, it is one way of assessing how well you do against a standard.

Sorry about the $$$, but good luck!

Texas = Zpack...nuff said :meanie:

ETS (the maker of TOEFL) is very good at lobbying schools to require TOEFL so that the CEO can keep on making $900,000 and 20 other officers keep on making $200,000+ (these salary numbers are true facts, I did an English essay on this backed up with data from IRS).

What are you complaining about? If you don't wanna pay, then don't apply to that school! Plain and simple......
