Too late for primary application?

I know I am incredibly late in the game! I have an acceptance from an allopathic school 2200 miles away from where I currently live, and realized that family is more important to me than I had remembered! So, after a priority changing trip, I am wanting to apply to a DO school. The deadline for receiving primary applications is March 1 though... do I have even a chance of making it? Would the application go straight to the school before being verified, or would it need the 4-6 weeks of verification prior to being received by the school? Do I even have a chance this late in the cycle?

There's all the p/s deadlines for each individual school. The application will not go to the schools before being verified. Last I heard it is taking 2-3 weeks for verification.

Realistically there's only four schools (LECOM and below) that you could make for the primary deadline. Maybe DCOM and below if you're verified extremely quickly.

I would guess that the waiting period (4-6) weeks is still going to be in affect. I submitted my primary application in August and it took more like 8 weeks for the application to be verified and sent to the schools to which I applied. However, I think your situation is different since less people are applying this late. Honestly, I would say that it is awfully late to be applying, and your chances of getting in are very slim. This has nothing to do with your credentials (which I am guessing are superb considering that you got accepted into an allopathic program, congrats), but rather there simply aren't too many seats to be filled. I would fill out the application, and start preparing for your secondaries right now so they can be submitted immediately. In addition, I don't know where you are planning on applying, but you may want to take into consideration schools with a large class size (LECOM is the largest medical school in the country with I believe 250 seats). I hope all turns out well for you, whatever you choose to do.

I really doubt it but who knows on a case by case basis. If you really want it I would call whatever school you're interested in, it can't hurt.

I would say it is def too late. But you can always ask the school directly, maybe they can grant you a deadline extension (depending on your situation). If I were you though I would take the acceptance to allo and run! haha. I understand family is important, but they wont be that far away and they can always come visit you.

You are way too late in the game to have a realistic chance at a DO program for this cycle IMO. But the good news is that you have an acceptance already! It is only 2 years at that school, and then look into whether or not you can do you clerkships near home...Best of luck!

Yes, family is important......but medical school is only 4 years and then some for residency. You will see them again and return to live close by if you choose.
