After a lot of thought and discussion, I finally came to the realization that I should pursue a career in EM.
Now that I've made that decision, I'm in a bind. I have no ER experience and no ER letters. All the slots are full at my home program, and I'm wondering if there is a place in the country that will take a rotator this late for October?

A-Non-y-mous, There is no doubt that you have some work cut out for you, but i would ask you if you have sent emails to clinical rotation directors, or program administrators. With the advent of email and "copy/paste" functions you could probably contact every program in a day.

You are not the first MS to decide on a career later that the mass in the bell curve. Regardless if that is EM or any other specialty. Do you have an advisor or an attending at your home institution to mentor you? Can you do additional shifts at your home shop?

Best of luck,

Paul

The other piece of advice I was told for people in this situation is that even though most of the away slots are filled, you can often get a rotation in EM Tox and then on your days off get into the ED. Plus you will be working with people in the Department. But I would definitely not give up until you get something. Also, you can get your letters in up to mid-Oct and be fine.

Good luck!
