make sure the programs you are going to apply to don't have a Nov 1 deadline. If you're past deadline, its definitely not worth applying there. They are not going to even look at your ap. But sure, find another 10-15 programs that you want to apply to, and do it now. Then in a couple weeks start emailing/calling programs directly and explaining why you are very interested in that program and would love to interview there.

I think it's too late. most programs I have spoken to told me that all those that they considered for an interivew were already notified.

I would agree with the above poster. Most programs have probably filled all of their interview slots and have wait lists. Unless you're a stellar candidate, you won't be a late addition.

It does not hurt to call, be super polite and say hey I am really interested in your program and have not heard from you. most likely someone will make a note that you called expressing interest in the program in your file and it might get you a second look. in general, does not hurt as long as you are polite not pushy.
