Hi guys. I just graduated from dental hygiene school last month and I am thinking of going to dental school. As far as I know, most dental school accept the application from June. If I start studying for DAT now , will that be too late ? Do I have to wait for the official DAT score to apply ?

If you're motivated and resourceful, you can probably prepare for the test in a month. And applying after June is fine, granted your entire application is well-rounded. To put this in perspective, I submitted my app in August and got admitted last cycle. You can also submit your application before your test scores come in, although I would imagine that schools won't review your file until that score is uploaded. However, it takes time for the AADSAS to process the other parts of your app, so you may as well submit it as early as you can.

Back to your inquiry on the DAT, I would recommend browsing through some breakdowns to see how others approached the test, what resources they used, and how they scored.

You should be fine as the person above said. If you have plenty of free time between now and June, I would study hard and take the DAT, and then apply (assuming all other areas of your application are ready). I actually applied quite late last application cycle (November 15th) and was admitted to a program as well (but I don't recommend waiting that long 🙂 ).

Thank you guys so much for the motivation and congratilations. I think I can do this. But I dont remember any bio and chemistry stuff now , if a 2 months of study will be good?
At the same time, I have been researching about study materials all day long, and it's so overwhelming. Can anybody please give me a recommendation on the study materials please?
I need to know how to make my 1st step.
Thank you

It's never too late, it's only late only if you don't trust in yourself. Many of my friends are studying for the DAT currently and they will be taking the exam in June. I studied everything for the DAT within the span of a month so you should have sufficient time to complete all the studying as well. I would recommend buying the DAT destroyer and Bootcamp, the only two essential resources you'll need for studying. Also watch Chad's videos for organic chemistry help.
