Hello all,

I've posted on and off here for some time, and once again, I need some advice/answers from you guys. Until recently, I was not 100% sure I wanted to do dentistry. Before I get flamed, I want to say that I was originally planning on applying the day the app opened. I've been in the pre-dental club for some time, and I have been shadowing on and off for awhile. I kind of "chickened out" so to speak, when the application date started coming around, and didn't end up applying like I had planned. This was due to a number of factors, many of which I do not wish to get into. Regardless, I have decided whole-heartedly that this is what I want to do, and am now in the process of applying.

My question is, I have everything filled out on my app, and am getting LOEs next week. I plan to hit submit before the end of September, and am taking the DATs early Oct. I know this sounds really stupid, but should I still try to apply this year?

According to AADSAS, I have a 4.0 science/4.0 non-science, around 40 hours of shadowing, and a few clubs here and there. I also work as a lab assistant (not dental related), and have held various jobs (including one in healthcare) throughout my collegiate career. If it matters, I am an avid artist (took four years of it) and still draw, paint, sketch, sculpt, etc in my spare time.

Please let me know if you think I am totally crazy or not. I REALLY want to apply, and do not want to wait another year (I graduate this fall).

Also, if I do apply, what schools tend to give out more acceptances to later submitters?

Thanks so much for your time. 🙂

P.S.-Please don't lecture me about how I should have submitted earlier and how I'm and idiot and whatnot. Hindsight is 20/20.

Whether it is late or not will depend on your DAT scores.

Basically meaning study my butt off, huh? lol

Oh, and pray. A lot.

Keep in mind timeline issues. If you take the DAT in Oct., the schools won't get your scores until Nov., best case scenario is they invite you for a interview which will be at earliest Dec., after they've already sent out a bunch of acceptances. That puts you at a disadvantage.

Late? Yes. Too late? No.

i would still apply if i were you. score atleast an 18 on the dat and i think you have a good chance at some interviews, especially with your 4.0 gpa. i'm guessing private schools like nyu, tufts, maybe usc would be interviewing and accepting latest on the timeline because they won't have seats finalized as quickly. it sounds like you really want this, go for it. goodluck
