I'm doing the committee letter and I was planning to submit 4 letters to the committee as seen below.
- research mentor (also had classes with her)
- dentist
- volunteer
- professor

So, technically, I will have 5 letters total. Do dental schools actually read through all of them? If so, isn't 5 too many to read? Perhaps, take one out?

No that is not too many. That is a typical amount.

When you say 4 letters do you mean with a committee letter? Because I have 4 right now (1 is a committee letter) and I don't know if I need one more or not.

The committee letter gets the most serious attention by admission officers. And then they'll skim past the other ones like less than 60 seconds. Well that's what I did anyway. Before you submit more than 4 letters, consider if they actually add anything concrete to your application. If you think the coach and your club faculty adviser will just say the same thing and repeat half of your CV in the letter, then choose one. The only risk is if the strongest letter gets diluted because the admission officers aren't taking the time to read them all closely.

Great advice, thanks!

You can only submit one more letter in addition to the committee letter, unless you put down the committee letter as an individual letter.

Yes, I have committee letter + dentist + 2 science professors. This was the recommended approach by the advising committee and they handle the uploading of all letters.

Pearl E, I currently have the same as you. So I should probably stop right now right?
And Sobertiger, I don't think I can choose, I think they will just send the committee letter attached with my three other letters of recommendation.

As @Lane138 mentioned, if the additional letters are not going to add anything substantial to what has already been said, they are not necessary. Why do the extra work? You definitely have enough to submit. 🙂
