does anyone know of any good schools that like to take california ( out of state) students and aren't expecting 3.9/37. I have a list of way too many schools to apply to and i'm not sure about them.

Any opinions on the following: Vanderbilt university, university of rochester, university of miami, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical school

I'm going to ignore the use of the words "safety schools" because I'm sure you know the drill.

MCW has about 50% out-of-state enrollment, and I've met a lot of Californians there. Its averages are a little higher than national average, but they're not expecting a 3.9/37 or anything.

NYMC has a lot of students from Cali.

I don't think anyone, even superstars, ought to consider Vanderbilt a safety school.

albert einsten and drexel seemed receptive to Cali residents. Met a lot of cali residents from einstein. OHSU i think is good to CA people too. Almost everyone in my interview group was from cali!

Its all a very random process, I wouldnt feel "safe" until admitted

"random"? That's not good to hear :scared: I hope this process isn't all that random for me, but from what I hear, it might be

It is absolutely random. There are safety schools but there are NO sure things. I was not even offered an interview at New York Medical College. However, the adcoms at Stanford, Yale, Columbia and Wash U all gave me interviews. I'll be going to Wash U this summer and am happy with the end result but, what the crap? No interview at New York Medical College? It is completely random.

Miami only reserves 35 spots for out of Florida state residents and they say they only recommend "highly competitive" applicants to apply if they are not from Florida. So I guess Miami shouldn't be considered one of your safety schools...
