I just registered with SDN but have been reading the threads for a while now! I just took the DAT on saturday and am posting my scores to get anyone's oppinion on my chances of getting in. This is how it went for me.

PAT 24
QR 16
RC 20
Bio 21
GC 18
OC 19
TS 19
AA 19

My GPA is 3.46 overall and a 3.20 science. I am applying to AZ, CWR, CRE, IND, MICH, UL, and USC. Any oppinions are welcome, and any questions you have about the DAT I would love to share my experience. Thanks to all you who have given advice here on SDN, I know it helped me out!!

how were the science sections? looks like you did pretty good on all of them! congrats 👍

I agree with many posts that I've read that the Bio section was something that the Kaplan review notes don't help with much. I thought that the questions were pretty straight forward, it was just a matter of you having studied that subject or not. I thought the Gen Chem was pretty tough! I heard many people saying that it was a lot of conceptual, but not in my case. Lots of equations! I've never been a fan of G-Chem so maybe that was part of my problem. My O-Chem experience might be a little different than most, because I haven't had the second half yet, and so I thought it was pretty difficult. That being said, I think that If I can get a 19 with only having the first half, it must not of been that hard. I spent a lot of study time on this subject however trying to make up for not having had the class.

wow.. im in the same boat as you i guess, I havent had the second half either haha.. 19s a good score though, thats what im aiming for... what resources did you use to study for ochem? im taking my DAT in two weeks... thanks!

I used Kaplan's Review Notes. I didn't take the Kaplan course, I just bought the study materials from a friend. He had also printed off the practice tests for a few of the sections, and O-Chem just happend to be one of them. I used the practice tests up through test three, but the tests after that one were a little to in depth for me. Having not had the second half, it helped me more just reading Kaplan and doing the review tests at the end of the section.

im takin it on thursday......you remember any particular questions???

Bio: I got a question regarding population genetics (Know definitions like genetic drift). A genetic question regarding sex linked genes (If mother is heterozygous for a recessive gene disorder, but father is just fine, what are the odds of her passing it on to one of her children). A pretty simple one about Sodium and Potassium concentrations around a neuron.

G-Chem: Lots of equations involving, gas laws, titrations, conversions into density etc.

O-Chem: Many questions on reactions involving Carboxylic Acids and their derivatives. A question about Purification/Separation. A question or two on Amides. I didn't get that many conceptual questions but the ones I did were pretty basic.

your PAT score is awesome ! 👍

what was your percentile on the PAT?

Great job on the DATs. Especially on the PATs and the Biology section. I've taken the DATs two times already and my scores don't even come close yours. Hopefully, third time's the charm 😳

How about the reading? Any non-science passages? Did the passages have many scientific jargons? Did you have the topics that everybody else had?

My PAT percentile was 99.9%. Hopefully that makes up for some of the other scores like QR (57.7%). 👎

Good luck on your DAT! When do you take it?

My reading topics were #1 Magnesium and Heart Disease. #2 Intracellular communication. #3 Controversial Herbal Medicine (or something like that)
None of the passages were that tough! I thought I had done better than I did though. The most scientific jargon showed up in the intracellular communication passage, but that happens to be a subject that I am pretty familiar with so it wasn't that bad.

Excellent job on your DAT, you'll definitely have no problem getting into D-school. Did you have any question on bones or echinoderms. Thanks

You know I was expecting a question on echinoderms because it showed up on almost all my practice DATs but I didn't get one on the real thing. I did however get a question regarding bones! It was pretty easy, just had to do with bone reabsorption and the cells involved. (just remember osteoblasts "build", and osteoclasts "cut" away. Don't get osteoClasts and osteoCytes confused). 👍
