So I took the DAT today...and it didn't go as well as I had hoped, but I guess it could've been worse =\. I feel like I could have done better, but not much I can do now. My scores are:

BIO 19, GCHEM 18, ORGO 21, QR 22, RC 21, PAT 20, TS 19, AA 20

They seem pretty average in terms of the school's websites and stuff, but do you think I need to retake it? or just wait see where i can get in? My gpa is BCP 3.42, overall 3.55. I'm a little worried I won't get in anywhere cus I feel like I'm kind of borderline for everything.

In case you were wondering, I took the kaplan class, and used destroyer (although I probably didn't use it to it's full potential seeing as how i didn't even do all the problems).

Are you joking? That's a good score. Be happy and go get yourself a drink.

thanks...i think i'm over-analyzing and just kinda freaking out...and dont' worry, i already took care of the drink part. first thing i did after the test was treat myself to a nice 6-pack haha

How much do you think Kaplan prepared you? Are you good in math, what did you do to prepare for that section?

By the way yoour scores are great, I would be very pleases if I were you.

I think kaplan did a decent job of preparing me. Laid down a good foundation for the sciences. However, I thought that the actual biology was trickier/harder than the types of questions that kaplan had. I think this is a general consensus amongst the people that have taken the DAT recently. So my bio score was a few points lower than what I normally scored on the practice tests. Chemistry I've always had issues with, so I'm not that surprised that gchem was my lowest score. The PAT was kind of hard too...there were some hole punching things that i've never seen before, so that took a little getting used to.

As for math, I'm usually ok with math, but i haven't taken it since high school, almost 4 years ago, so I had to get back into the swing of things. My scores for the math part for the first few practice tests i took were pretty bad, but I guess just practice doing problems, and learn the general concept of how to solve certain types of questions. I'm not sure if i explained that as well as you wanted, so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask, or PM me 🙂

mikey,

you did great man. you have the percentages that were given to you when you got the scores today. You are probably somewhere around the 85% percentile give or take a few percent in AA and PAT. That means that only 15% +/- did better than you. You are above the averages for most schools. Your GPA is at or above a good portion of the the school's averages.

I am sure you'll do fine. Don't be too critical of yourself. Be confident at all of your interviews because you do have scores that compare to at least half of all dental school students!
