Ok, so I've seen the ranking threads and dont feel it says much. I am most interested in the ranks for the programs that you leave with the most opportunities, or the programs whose name carries the most weight in academics or private practice; namely who has the best networks for the future; academics or private practice; I realize its a bit different. I know research/funding/culture, etc plays a factor, but I just want these based on network.

I was thinking of a consensus top 5. Then 10 that are very close. Obviously I dont know, does anyone else have an idea.

Sorry, that wasnt my intention - maybe instead of ranking, who has the best networks?

No, NO, NO. Mine is the best program becuz it has the most graduates practicing in the state I want to live in!

My program is the best for me because it's a "top" program in the state where I want to practice and we have graduates at many, many of the practices across the state.

Honestly, I don't think you're going to find any sort of "list" of the best programs for networking and finding jobs post-residency. Even if such a list existed, it would serve very little purpose in determining which residency program was right for you. The reason you feel ranking lists don't say much is precisely that...they DON'T say much at all and frankly, they're quite USELESS, IMHO, when it comes to picking a residency program. Having said that, there ARE programs at big name schools/hospitals (UCSF, BID, Brigham & Womens', etc) and programs with excellent reputations; however, I think a lot of what determines success in a residency program and in finding a job afterward comes from what YOU PUT INTO your residency education. I think at most places you'll have the potential to get good training...in determining how to rank places, you need to use your interview experience (what are the benefits/drawbacks to each program? what is the "atmosphere" like? will I fit in well?) and do your homework on the programs you look at. No list is going to give you that.

Hope this helps.

PLEASE don't insult us or OUR programs, we WERE being serious

Hey, no insults intended. If any of you feel like I dissed your programs in any way, I apologize; that was NOT my intent.

I do think that Arch may have a good point in that his program is the best FOR HIM.

I do stand by my point that "lists" like the OP is requesting are USELESS and that he should do his homework on different programs. In making his final decision on programs, he should take into consideration not only reputation, but atmosphere, pros/cons, and his "gut feeling" about the program in making his final decision.

I was joking. No smiley faces to help in translation...
