As you are aware, US News published pharmacy school rankings every two years.
But did you know that these rankings were based on a peer survey sent out to deans, administrators, faculty for all accredited pharmacy schools in good standing in the Fall of 2011. "Respondents rated the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding)." There was a 39% response rate..
I believe that there are many components that can be added to this pharmacy school ranking system. For example, what about student input? I think that a ranking system like this needs to be implemented to keep the pharmacy schools honest especially with the increasing tuition rates they charge and decreasing prospects.
Take a look at MBA programs. There are several ranking systems. If I'm not mistaken, pharmacy schools only have one.
A better ranking system IMO would include the following components:
-average scholarship given to students, total tuition cost
-full-time job prospects 2 years after graduating (taking into account those students who did residency and fellowship for 1 or 2 years)
-residency match % for those that applied
-faculty to student ratio
-student surveys on their opinion about their schools: e.g. does the program work with students to improve their experience?
-availability of APPE and IPPE sites
-facility - is it conducive to a professional learning environment? effective investments in technology?
What are your guys' thoughts? I'd especially like to hear what pre-pharmacy students care about when looking into a PharmD program.
