Top Residencies in Neurology - A Revival

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This thread should serve as a revival of the previous post titled Best top 5 Neurology residencies?

Oh, good. I was just thinking "What this forum really needs is the "Best top 5 Neurology residencies" thread to rise from the dead."

Before I stepped down as mod I nearly deleted that thread, just as a service to humanity.

Before I stepped down as mod ...

Ah, so that's where you disappeared to. Who's your "replacement"? Oh, and while I understand your sentiments regarding that thread, it does have some interesting info in it, like the listing of program strengths by specialty.

Well, I understand there will never be a universal top 5 program, but discussing them in the manner of the previous thread is really helpful for resident candidates.

While I agree that a discussion of the "best" programs is of some utility for applicants, the problem is that there are differing concepts of the constituents of quality. Climate? Research? Starting salary? Fellowship? Nearness to home? For PhDs? For educators?

Additionally, no one on this forum is actually unbiased, so people get their feelings hurt when their program is ranked 18 rather than 16 by some 23 year-old who has zero authority to make such a claim in the first place.

There are many good programs, and if y'all have questions about them, ask. But sniping about how so-and-so ranked Tulane above Miami and ergo so-and-so is an idiot is a useless endeavor.

Any opinions/information would be appreciated: what are the relative strengths/weaknesses/overall quality of the neuro programs at URochester, Pittsburgh, UVA and UNC?

thanks! i don't mean to stir up any bad feelings, i'm really just trying to get some info 🙂

I hope that any neuro applicant knows this already. The more opinion the better. And, provided that 23 year old has something pertinent that I would otherwise not know about a problem, it is more than welcomed....

Once again, if everyone was objective that would be fine. But making broad generalizations about programs tends to lead people who are actually IN said programs to get upset. You would too, if you worked 100 hours a week for a program that you love and someone called it garbage. This is the inherent problem with the topic.

This is not just a message board for applicants. It should be a collegial environment for everyone, not merely a tool for furthering your agenda to get into a good program.
