hi all, i just took topscore 1 and had some orgo questions.

For number 78, it states that cis 1,2 cyclopentane diol is meso cmpd. where is plane of symmetry?

for number 83, how can there be an inversion if it is not a chiral center. if im not mistaken the carbon in question has 2 CH2 grps attached to it.

Finally, for number 98, it says choice c is not planar. What does it mean to be planar?

THank you all in advance.🙂

78: The plane of symmetry goes straight down between the hydroxyl groups.

83: I don't know the specific compound, but remember that you have to look beyond the CH2 groups: if they have different things attached, you have to consider those with priority rules.

98: Planar means everything is located in one plane. Pi bonds are planar, among other things.

ok, yea, i see it all now, thank you much. cant believe i missed the meso one.... gotta focus more
