Hey everyone,

Question: I heard that the Topscore CD's expire soon after you buy them. Anyone know exactly how long that is? The reason for my asking is, if they expire soon then I don't want to buy them too early so that they might expire before I get a chance to use them. Thanks!

They expire after 6 months. Make sure you don't buy one off of eBay or elsewhere, because it will expire before what you purchase straight from them. Here's a link that has a bunch of info:

http://www.scholarware.com/genfaq01.htm

They're pretty protective of the product and its expiration date, and rightly so. They sell a lot more copies this way, which is especially smart since it's a very limited market.

You always have the option to extend the usage of the software. 1 extra month free, 6? months for $15. Just make sure you KEEP YOUR RECEIPT/CONFIRMATION NO.!!! (I lost mine and had to buy it all over again)

I got the upgrade when mine expired and the company said to do the upgrade because the newer version has detail solutions. I paid for the upgrade. They had a copy of my receipt so....they said they keep copies of all receipts. I had no problems working with the company. They were nice to me.

Is this when you purchase them or when you open it? I purchased mine a while back but didn't even open it yet....

Generallee- to answer your question, the time starts when you purchase it. I ran into the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I bought the thing late 2003, and I recently tried to use it 🙁 So the lesson learned is: don't buy it until you're ready to use it...or you're within the time frame of when you're going to use it.

I am not sure, but if I were you,,,,

It seems that topscore will expire at a certain date. So this has to be tied to your computer date.

If you want to use topscore still why not backdate your computer?????

then the disk will think it is still current and it will work???????

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm may work !

I know...there is always a way around something. There was a little more involved than backdating, but I managed.

Yeah, but when you back date it it has to be close to the date when you purchased it. And if you've already installed it once on your computer, it leaves, like a cookie (not good w/ computer terminology!) or something, so you have to delete that cookie before re-installing. (uninstalling is not good enough.) It will be under your program files.

Mine still has 97 days left. I can see it on the info menu, plain as day. It started from my installation date.

Hey here is a thought, buy it like the rest of us and/or use it honestly. I happen to write music and would be pissed off if someone photocopied it. What, it's ok to take other's stuff, but not your stuff right?

Dude, chill. 🙄 When did I ever say I was using a burnt copy? I did buy it from scholarware. However, after the program had expired, I was unable to renew the contract b/c I had lost the receipt. I tried (unsuccessfully) to reinstall it and had to buy it all over again. As for the software, it's arguable that it's unfair for me to have to pay for the program twice, because I was originally unaware that the software expires. (Look at the website, it's not obviously posted.)

If you can find any error in the question, you get $10 back. It used to be $5 per questions. At least I got all my $$$ back by reporting 8 or 9 questions, I think. So basically used it for free.

IMO, scholarware is too greedy. They should allow buyers to use it a little bit longer. I didn't need it for more than a month, but if I re-take the dat for next year, I'll find my ways around it and re-use it.

On the other hand, do not even think about re-selling it on ebay. Before I purchased it through Amazon, I browsed ebay and saw a used one. I watched it, guess what, scholarware (an ebay username) was the winner! I'm sure that seller got some serious email from scholarware!

just change the clock on your windows, which is on the lower right hand corner to the date you purchased it at...then just use it

yea you guys gotta really watch that!!!

I saw where Scholarware is suing a college b/c a professor was distributing it. Its on their web site like they are proud of it.

Rock on with the lawsuits.

Thanks. I didn't mean to imply that. My experience with this company has been nothing but good. I have called and even spoken with a dental student who helped with some awesome advice. My beef with some is just pay for your use of it. It's pretty reasonably priced and was a great tool (i'm not the first to say this here) but seem to see everyone's way to get around or cheat it from this people. when are we going to learn to be professional. when I'm a dentist (which should be in 5 years) I don't want patients stealing from me. Pay my fee for find another. i'll be worth it and so will you. 👍

We are unable to verify the above claim. We do however, keep detailed records of every challenge, customer who submits challenges, and amounts paid back. Although the above claim may appear anonymous, we have never paid a single customer for "8 or 9" questions through our Question Guarantee.

Yes, I did, except for shipping, of course. Maybe you lost the record?

WOW.. Um is this for real?? Does Scholarware really have a representative that signs on to SDN or is this a joke??

Also, is this money back thing true, cause I have found a mistake in the bio section!! 😉

We don't loose records. You are always welcome to post or submit true identity information to us and we will happily follow up with proof or correct information on this board. We keep all financial information also. We can find your receipt and credits from 1998 if needed. It's not that hard for us.

email is: [email protected]

We track all our question challenges in a database and who has received an award. We have never had an award as you describe you have received. Sorry.

We recently (about 2 weeks ago) updated our award from $5 to $10 because of "other" companies once again copying ScholarWare and once again showing their lack of being very original in their product offerings. (You have noted this very recent change...interestingly...) We "upped the ante". We totally stand behind our products 100%. We provide unmatched customer support also. We're not some website and p.o.box. And, some of our employees (predent or dental students mostly) do check out this board from time to time.

The question guarantee is at www.scholarware.com/questionguarantee.htm

We don't want to argue with you about this. We truly care about predental students and their success. If you new some of the employees here or ever worked with Support or called us 678-461-9300, we'd hope you'd agree. We also will substantiate your claim...we don't.

scholarware is a 3rd year dental student, working part-time for scholarware. Who knows if that's true?

I got my money, so give it a try, but first check if any correction has been posted on their website, in case.......

What benefits can I get by providing the proof?

There is no need to. We have now identified you (S.F.T.) and reviewed your account. You did receive awards on two different occasions back in 2001. Interestingly, you are the only one that ever received an award for 6 questions. Two question awards were miskeyed, which does fall within our guarantee.

Also, ScholarWare is our company ID for SDN. I happen to be a predental student. Others use this account also.

Good luck.

Hmmm good guess. Actually I recounted. I reported several but 9 were approved. Keep searching.

Dude, this Scholarware guy has way too much knowledge about users on SDN. Suddenly I feel like I'm in the Soviet Union and my whole house is being bugged and monitored.

And if you believe this *****, then you must've voted for Bush too.

You can extend your scholarware CD by resetting to before you bought your CD. Just do a quick backup of your whole system using Norton Ghost or Acronis before you install Scholarware, or even after. So that way whenever you need practice just reinstall your backup. Fuq Scholarware. If I paid for it, you better damn well believe that I will keep on using it. It's highway robbery what they are comitting. No where does it say on the website that it expires in 6 months either, or fewer for people that buy it toward the end of the year. Does anyone know any other software that does that to them?

If you installed the program and reset the clock it wont work. Scholarware can suck the big one. Scare some one who is in kindergarten. Idiots. Reminds me of Turbotax and their install once scheme along with activation ID. Lotta good that did them when the buyers revolted and didnt buy their product and threatened not to buy them. They sure got rid of that little experiment quick, didnt they.
