given the following rxn, if the temp increase which direction would it shift....

pcl5+4h20 ----> h3po4 + 5 HCL h= -527 kj


obiously it would seem as it would go left , but this is a open system where it only flows one direction, so i would assume no hanges would be made since this is not at equilibrium, but the answer says it goes to the left....how will it go left if it is not a closed system??? am i right that topscore made a boo boo on this one? or does la chaletlle's principle apply to closed or open system equally/?
 
This is an exothermic reaction so heat will be a product. Now it is just a Le Chateliers (sp) problem. If you add to the right, it will shift to the left.

If it was endothermic, it would be the opposite.
 
i did the same stupid question yesterday..they need to show a double arrow!!
i hope the real dat isnt as ambiguous
