Someone flopping 700-800K nuts to fellows at UTSW is a serious RED FLAG.(or to fellows at ANY program)

There are many ways to make illegal gains in the Pathology, most of which involve Medicare/Medicaid fraud on very large scales. Im not specifically claiming anything and I dont know who/what this entity that is paying 35-year old docs 725K in salary... Read that last sentence again. This reeks of a 'Boiler Room' operation.

Even at partner level? I think those number they keep floating are partner pay, and most likely they are vaguely saying that the partners clear something around near, by, through, or under 750k. Which if you think about it if they bring on a new partner has to go down. Y/x=750k. Y/X+1<750k. (say 10 becoming 11 partners means 750 becomes 680)
(sort of, because the pre-partners salary comes out before the partner split, so when the pre-partner joins that stops coming back out early, but still the over affect is minus)

In VERY tight, hardworking hospital based pathology group COULD theoretically hit low 700s, but more often than not what you have is the founders making their salary plus a 20%+ management differential. Indeed your understanding is correct, because each new equity partner leads to a sizable decrease in the total compensation per member meaning whatever they are getting now per person wont be what you get if you come on board.

REGARDLESS, I would be very wary of a group that is just flopping that number to interviewees. It is VERY unusual and to me says they are trying very hard to get people suckered in. I had a group that flopped 550K to me plus bene's and in doing some digging found out that had gone through a ton of junior people, expelling them before partnership voting.

I have spoken with multiple groups in Texas specifically an am unaware of anyone outside of the Cockrell and Assoc's who are sporting wads that large. But this is one man's experience.

Yeah, the partner pay doesn't matter too much if they never let you make partner.
