I really have an interest in sociology and criminal justice and would love to double major in it, but im not sure if this would let me be able to concentrate on my premed courses and have time for EC's and a social life. Is it possible to do all? I am willing to take summer classes. I hate feeling like I have to choose between the two.

ETA I like CJ because its very similar to sociology, studying people and society. I have no interest in law school, my interests lie completely in medical school. I dont have to be a science nerd to be a doc geeze I have other interests lol. 🙂

Hey Mahliah! It is definitely possible to do all of those things and more! I had many friends in college who double majored, volunteered, and were active members of various clubs and organizations on campus. They also managed to attend many Harvard and MIT parties and had a good time. I majored and minored, which wasn't quite as time consuming, but still managed to do all those things and work 30 hours a week while studying and taking the MCAT! I know it sounds overwhelming, but these things really do work out in the end! Feel free to PM me to talk about managing hectic schedules in college. I definitely did it and was pretty darn good at it, too!

ETA Will it be possible to do this and take the MCAT in time for spring of junior year? I'd really rather not take any time off.

just major in one and take science electives to get it over with. undergrad goes by fast, no need to double major, it's just an interest not a career.

@ kansaskid thanks for the reply 🙂 ill deff send a PM

Thanks for the response, I think im going to do that and not make it difficult for myself.

I have many interests, im also considering art, business or comp sci...given the long road to training to becoming a doc, I want to explore other interests of mine that I wont be able to study for a long time.

It is definitely possibly, but will most likely be a lot of work. Also, if these are your interests, law school may be better for you than med school (just my opinion though).

Nope, my interests lie in medical school 🙂 Thanks for the advice.

It's doable, but you might be taking 18 credits/semester every semester. I might suggest doing one as a major and the other as a minor depending on what your schedule looks like or how much work you enjoy dealing with every semester. I am majoring in English and doing pre-med, and the worst is scheduling. Once you decide on your major, sit down with the list of classes you have to take and make a four-year plan, which is a list of which courses you are going to take which semester. Mine is basically an outline of the pre-med pre-reqs, and then so many credit slots allotted for my major or minor, since it doesn't offer the same classes on a set schedule every year like the sciences do. Plus I have a checklist of major requirements in the same spreadsheet. Seriously, it's a lifesaver. It would have been easy for me to lose track and end up not being able to graduate because I forgot to take my third English elective, or whatever.

Yes, Ill probably just minor in CJ, since at the college im hoping to matriculate to requires a minor for graduation anyway. Thanks 🙂

Exactly, man a bachelors is just a baby step, no need to bug yourself down with so much work when ppl out there get in with single majors ya know?

My advice...do whatever you'd be happy doing if you somehow don't make it into medical school (or have to wait a year to reapply). They way I looked at undergrad was a back-up career if medicine didn't work out for some reason.
