So I'm moving into the US next year and keep reading about the RIAA is cracking down on torrenting music and ISPs are tracking the torrenting of music/movies/software etc. etc. However, I really don't have any clue whether this is media hype about 1 guy in the whole country who got screwed, or if this is actually a widespread phenomena (in Canada torrenting basically gets a free pass in practice).
So... if I torrent movies/tv shows/music and stuff in the US, how real is the likelihood of me getting chased down by the authorities for it?
Please, don't turn this into a discussion about the ethics of downloading movies/shows; if you want to discuss that make another topic.
