How much time did you spend every weekday in class + studying during M1 (aka how much time did you spend on medical school stuff per weekday during M1) ?

Now, all of your days in M1 likely didn't look exactly the same. Your days right before an exam were probably a lot different than your days when your next exam was three weeks away. Just try to average it out.

(I searched, and this has been asked a few times before but there never was a poll)

(The poll answers will be anonymous...I left the "make answers public" box unchecked)

For this semester, we have 4 hours of lecture per day for the week, I go usually for about 2 hours of lecture. I usually have a 1-2 hour obligation in the afternoon 1-2 times a week on average.

So that's 2-2.5 hours right there.

Obviously, I study different hour lengths depending on the day or closeness to the test. And there's a difference between "quality" study time and time spent staring at the notes while watching TV, on SDN (like now), or other things. But I probably average about 3-5 hours on average in addition.

So about 5-7 hours of med school stuff per weekday.

Now, I realize days will vary. For example, some schools have blocks. Students at those schools will likely be attending class and studying a lot more during the end-of-block exam week than during the first week of the block. Just try to average it out.

Five or six? I don't know.

Stopped going to class at some point during first year. That was nice.

I quickly gave up on lecture. Which in hindsight I regret. Not only do I still have a serious aversion to lectures developed from undergrad...which is a problem as I now fall asleep in grand rounds.

But also, I wish I had trusted the school's curriculum a bit more. Would have made for a better foundation and less cramming for Steps and Shelfs.

Anyway, I quit lecture and just studied at home. I probably spent like 5-8 hrs/day reading or going to the few required lectures we had. Definitely wish I'd done it differently but I basically used first and second year as very extended vacations that included being very lazy, not working out and watching a lot of TV online...

Oh well, guess it worked out ok.

I actually went to all the lectures, so I would say 8-9 hrs if you average it out.

Usually I wouldn't study at all for the first 2 weeks after an exam, and then study way more the 2 weeks before an exam so I guess it averages out to that.

Once a week, I'm in class for 8 hours. The rest of the week, I'm in class for 4 hours. Anatomy has been more time consuming than the other class, as I generally go into lab after hours once or twice a week. I probably spend about three hours a night studying after class. Maybe a little more or less depending on what else is going on that day/week.

Class everyday 8-noon. Labs almost everyday 1-3 or 1-5 depending on the day.

Then studying that day's stuff at home at night.

Not fun.

On average, probably 12-14 hours a day.
