TPR book question

Hi - I was hoping someone could help me with the problem in the TPR orgo review book. It's in chapter 1, example 1-8 (c). I just don't get what is going on in that problem and there is no real explanation for the answer.

Sorry, I don't have that book with me but I think that you haven't received much help for this thread nobody else does either. If you were to type the problem and answers out it would be easier for us to assist.
